Austin has played guitar for 26 years and has taught for 10 years. He played and sang with Buxton who had a record contract with the major record label New West Records. He plays with various alternative rock bands and has his own band called Mr. Data.

He teaches a wide variety of guitar styles and is a strong student motivator. He is well-liked by his students.
